Customers and projects
Routes: /customers, /customers/{id} · Roles to edit: finance, admin
(everyone can read)
Customers are the top of the hierarchy. Projects belong to a customer, and time is logged against a project. Getting this structure right is what makes billing possible.
Create a customer
-
Open Customers and projects.
-
Click New customer.
-
Fill in:
Field Notes Name Required. Currency EUR, GBP, or USD. Defaults to EUR. Timezone Used as the customer's billing timezone. Accounting reference Free text matched to your finance system. Notes Optional context. -
Click Create customer. You land on the customer's page.
Edit a customer
On the customer page, click Edit to change the name, status, currency, timezone, accounting reference, or notes.
Archive or reactivate a customer
From the customer list, click Archive on a row to retire it, or
Reactivate to bring it back. Statuses are active, paused, and archived;
archiving stamps the time.
Create a project
- Open the customer.
- Click New project.
- Fill in Name (required), Code, Budget hours, and Accounting reference.
- Click Create project.
New projects start as active.
Assign engineers
Engineers can only log time against projects they are assigned to.
- On a project row, click Assign.
- Choose the Project and the Engineer.
- Click Assign.
Remove someone by clicking the × next to their name in the project's engineer list. Assigning is idempotent — assigning twice is harmless.
The two manager roles are not limited to assignments; their log-time picker lists all active projects.
Archive or reactivate a project
Use the Archive/Reactivate button on the project row. Archived projects drop out of engineer pickers.
Rules and side effects
- Only finance and admin can change customers, projects, and assignments.
- Archived customers and projects keep their history; they are hidden, not deleted.
- Every create, update, status change, assign, and unassign is audited.
